Experimenting with Stain

We are putting some pine shelves in the kitchen, and I want them stained a completely different color than Ikea "beech". I'm going with the first one- the red. 

Modifying the Ikea Products

The Ikea cabinetry is working out just fine, but we have had to make a few adjustments. Namely, the plinth needed some modification to 1) make up for the 2" difference in the floor from one end of the kitchen to the other, and 2) to make them look less, well, Ikea-y.

Our solution: using the Ikea plinth supplied, we cut a bunch of tongue and groove pine to necessary specs and glued them into place onto the plinth.
