Kitchen by Ikea

Preparing to install the wall cabinets.

Cooking With Gas

Finally got one of the multiple appliances in! This is such a relief, as we've been storing them since we bought them way back when in March and have had to move them from room to room as we've worked. It was such a great deal from craigslist that we couldn't afford to pass them up!

Stairwell Before...
How it looked the day we bought the place.

Stairwell During
(stay tuned for 'stairwell after'...give us a few weeks)

Tiled Entrance

Thanks, Sheila and Jim for the free tile! It's perfect for the foyer. we took serious advantage of the unusual 40 degree weather to get this job done, since the soon-to-be-replaced front door leaks cold air like nobody's business. Warm weather ensures proper drying of the grout, so we appreciate that we didn't have to deal with sub-zero drafts.

Nice and Purty!

In case we've all forgotten, this is what it used to look like.

Preparing to Varnish the Floors

We're running out of space to store all of the crap, too. Everything had to be removed from the entire first floor to enable us to finish the floors. This was absolutely the most painful part of the project, no kidding. You've seen the photos, people! We were horrible housekeepers.

After multiple trips to the dump, the second floor, our own house, and the creepy evil skanky basement, we managed to stuff what remained into the back sunroom. Try getting through all of that! I dare you.

Back Porch of the Cabin

Complete with grill.

Secured Entry (finally)

Our 'hood has a bad reputation.

That said, this back door has been sans handle and lock for the length of the project. Not a single thing has been stolen. I would go so far as to admit that I frequently space out and forget to lock the door to our own house, leave my purse in the unlocked car in the driveway, and so forth...but to say those things publically would make my Dad cringe, like the time I was a single gal living alone with an answering machine message that advertized "I'm not home right now". Who knows what criminal could be calling random telephone numbers in the phone book to find a voice advertising a Theives Paradize?!

As the adage goes, locks keep the honest folks honest.

Where to put the Junk?

D and J are running out of room in the cramped space of the cabin. This makes finishing work difficult. Despite appearances, it's all a highly organized mess. Don't touch anything!

Tongue and Groove Ceiling

The walls are painted, and the pine ceiling has a fresh coat of varnish. Looks sharp! It was kind of hard to imagine just how sharp way back when in August. Click here for an August view.

Cozy!

The fireplace cabinet is almost finished.
